NCM’s directors and internationally acclaimed sibling duo Joanne and David Quigley present the festival’s opening concert at Christchurch Bessbrook.

The duo are joined by Dublin born soprano Máire Flavin, former finalist of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World who now enjoys an impressive career on the international operatic stage. A feast of musical treats is on offer, including works by Debussy, Chopin, Liszt and Puccini.

A wonderful evening of music and song is guaranteed!

Maire Flavin soprano

Born in Dublin, Máire Flavin represented Ireland at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2011, reaching the Song Prize final. Máire recently made the move into lyric soprano repertoire receiving critical acclaim in her role and company debut as Fiordiligi in Opera North's Cosí fan tutte. She is due to make another role debut as Mimi with Opera Theatre Company in the Spring. Soprano roles have included Agrippina, Irish Youth Opera and Northern Ireland Opera; Second Lady, Welsh National Opera; Emmy (Der Vampyr), Everyman Theatre Cork and Musetta for Lyric Opera Ireland. Máire has worked as a mezzo with companies such as Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and Glyndebourne.

Award winning Irish pianist David Quigley enjoys a wide and varied career as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in many of the world’s greatest concert halls including Wigmore Hall London, Konserthaus Stockholm and Carnegie Hall New York. As a concerto soloist he has appeared with many professional orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Ulster Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Camerata Ireland. He has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Barry Wordsworth, Barry Douglas, Takuo Yuasa, Sachio Fujioka and David Porcelijn. Recent highlights include a highly successful concert and masterclass tour of China, performances at the Banff Centre, Canada and broadcasts for BBC Radio 3. Read more on the artist's website

Irish violinist Joanne Quigley currently enjoys a wide and varied career in music. She is in high demand as an orchestral leader and principal player and has appeared as guest leader of the BBC Scottish Symphony, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. During 2011-2012 she was the acting leader of the RTE Concert Orchestra and held the position of Co-Leader of that orchestra from 2006-2008. Joanne has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the USA as a principal player with the English Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, European Camerata and Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique. She also performs regularly as Co-Leader with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the acclaimed. hand picked John Wilson Orchestra. As a soloist, Joanne has performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra, The Northern Sinfonia, The Ulster Sinfonia, The Ulster Youth Orchestra, The Oriel Ensemble and The Banff Chamber Orchestra. Joanne is the Founder and Director of Newry Chamber Music, a concert series promoting National and International artists in her hometown.
